We first met David in the early '70s when he joined the staff at Manor School, Ruislip, and it was interesting to discover that it was his father, Harry, who had been one of my tutors at Shoreditch College of Education in the '60s. David quickly became a well respected member of the Technology Department and it was a privilege to work alongside him.
His long service as Secretary of the Hillingdon NASUWT provided much needed support for many of its members through difficult times, and his effective leadership in that role led to a substantial growth of membership. With his excellent negotiating skills, it was always reassuring to know that David was on our side!
David knew his subject well and was confident, well-organised, kind and approachable, and we are pleased that a friendship developed, introducing us to Sue, and lasting a long time.
The subsequent birth of Hazel, between the births of our own two daughters, further developed our friendship through the introduction of another common interest. Looking back, and having known three generations of this family over more than half a century, whilst seeing the devotion, love and respect they've all shown for each other, it is not surprising that Hazel chose a related career and has become successful too.
